It all begins with a seed.

It happened as long as 100 or 150 years ago. A full grown tree drops a seed. Call the seed an acorn, a walnut or even one of those helicopter pods that we love to see when the weather turns to fall. The seed drops and finds purchase in the fertile soil and begins to grow. WIth luck, it will continue to grow and thrive.

Like all things, in time, things change. Maybe the tree is in the way of a new driveway. It might succumb to the infirmity of old age and rot, or be in the path of a particularly aggressive storm. For whatever reason, the tree comes down.

All of Chip’s lumber is responsibly sourced from trees that were being brought down or fell in a storm.  You will find a variety of woods from various parts of the area and the country.  Examples include cherry and maple from Ashe County, osage orange and hackberry from Wichita, Kansas, and walnut and box elder from Ames, Iowa.

All of the bowls and utilitarian items are meant to be used, daily. Enjoy!
