Chip Scholz

Chip Scholz is the creator of all of the wooden objects.  All items are hand-turned.

All of his wood is responsibly sourced from trees that were being brought down.  You will find a variety of woods from various parts of the area and the country.  Examples include cherry and maple from Ashe County, osage orange and hackberry from Wichita, Kansas, and walnut and box elder from Ames, Iowa.

Chip has worked with wood for many years, making furniture and small items.  For Christmas of 2014, Chip’s wife gave him a small lathe for Christmas, and he fell in love with the craft.

The real blessing of finding the lathe?  Chip had a stroke in 2012.  He thought he was recovering fairly well, but still was having some cognitive issues.  The lathe changed all that.  Having to solve problems, work on design and flow, and improving hand-eye coordination, his cognition improved to pre-stroke levels.

Chip turns on two lathes, a Laguna 1524 and a Vicmarc VL 300.  He has studied with some of the greats in the wood turning world such as Mike Mahoney, Marty Libman and Kirk DeHeer.

Chris Scholz

Chris Scholz is the creator of knitted items.  The hats and sweaters are all hand-knit in the traditional way.

She has been knitting since she was 15 years old.  The story goes that she had a boyfriend she wanted to impress, so she asked her mother how to knit.  With her guidance she knit the boyfriend a sweater, and I am told he was quite pleased!  The boyfriend and the sweater are both just a memory.

Chris also crochets from time to time—a tradition that was passed down from her Grandmother. The craft of creating beautiful hand knit creations lives on!

Chris has taken several classes in yarn art over the years. She works in a variety of yarns that she sources from craft fairs and shops throughout North Carolina and uses a variety of techniques depending on the work.

Chris now enjoys knitting as great therapy from her busy life as a partner in a real estate and property management business. She is also a golf enthusiast.  I hope you enjoy her work!

Michelle Scholz

Michelle Scholz is the creator of the crocheted items found in this booth.  All of the blankets are hand-made.

Her love of crocheting was planted in her at a very young age by her great-grandmother.  She loved Gramma Gigi and found it fascinating to watch as her hands worked to create beautiful objects.  That led to a life’s worth of crocheting, making baby blankets for friends and family when they were having babies.

She crochets as therapy from her busy days as a partner in a real estate and property management firm.  She finds something soothing about the craft.  Her need to crochet soon outstripped the number of relatives having babies, and the result is what you see here.
